The Charge Of The Light Brigade*

There are few greater pleasures than reading your favourite literature in the garden. If poetry happens to be your prose of choice, sitting outside amongst the greenery, a common source of inspiration for many wordsmiths, can have a satisfying symmetry.

However, like your I-pod on shuffle, things can get dark very quickly. What started out as a cheerful reflection on a nightingale can turn into a raven tap, tap, tapping, as the darkness falls upon you.

If you are a fan of epics and you’ve commenced your Odyssey at G&T time** then you are unlikely to have finished heralding the commencement of your journey before the light fades, your eyes blur, and, in a distinctly un-Homeric fashion you are forced to abandon your journey before it has really begun.

However, outdoor poetry reading fanatics (a small, but now vocal group), it does not have to be this way. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.*
